I wonder how many Jeep sites have written a review of an air freshener...probably not many. Jeeps, because of the usage they get - rained in - mudded in - and generally abused, can sometimes develop characteristic smells. Thus, the air freshener. Generally, the air fresheners that I've used (the little Christmas tree fresheners that smell like a pine forest), are overwhelming. When you get into a car it doesn't smell natural, but like an evergreen tree has been squeezed of its sap. Because of this, I went with the new car smell fragence. I'm not a fan of hanging an air freshener from my rear-view mirror so I wanted something that can be somewhat hidden. What I found was The Bug.
The Bug it a little piece of rubberized something that kind of sticks to things like a slappy hand toy, but it's not greasy. I made The Bug's home just in front of my shifter.
Now the question, how does it smell? Actually, surprisingly, not bad. It isn't overwhelming; In fact, you can barely notice an air freshener smell at all. It basically just covers up the Jeepy smell. So, for now, I like it. we'll see how The Bug fairs at my next 3,000 mile check-up. I can always pull out the can of Raid if I don't like it!
Update September 14, 2007
As you can imagine, reporting back on the quality of my air freshener hasn't been high on my list, but, things shouldn't be left hanging out there.
Well, the bug lasted about 6 weeks. That's not bad for $2.00, but after the bug died, I didn't replace it. Why? I guess because my Jeep doesn't really
smell. For that matter, in the summer, the top is off almost all of the time anyways so it doesn't have a chance to smell. Perhaps, when the
cold months get here and the hardtop goes back on, I'll consider putting another $2.00's into my air quality.
