That's the question I've been asking myself lately. Not so much as in what is the cost for every little accessory that must be purchased, but more towards the gas consumption costs. How much would I save if I drove a car that gets better gas mileage? Well, since I'm of the opinion that anything worth doing is worth over-doing, I wrote a small program in Adobe Flex to do the calculations for me.

The numbers are kind of staggering when you look at a Jeep that's getting 19 mpg with a strong tail wind compared to a fuel miser that gets 35 mpg. Don't worry, it's safe to put your own numbers into the calculations. I'm not saving any of the information on the back end. This is just something that I did to help me learn a new programming language that I thought would be interesting to others.
