On June 14, 2008 (Saturday) Van Andel & Flikkema invited Jeepers to join them at their Jeep and Crysler dealership to take part in the Plainfield Avenue NE Car Show. This car show is hosted by the Plainfield Ave car dealers and each dealership invites people to show off their favorite model car. If you own a Ford Mustang you go to the Ford lot. If you have a '67 Camaro you go to the Chevrolet lot. And if you have a Jeep you go to Van Andel & Flikkema's Jeep lot.
The show officially started at 9:00, but there's no way we're getting out of the house that early on a Saturday. We drove down with 2 other Jeeps around 10:00'ish - more 'ish than you can imagine.
When we arrived there were many Jeeps already in the lot. The other dealerships on Plainfield Ave also had good turnouts. Many people really get into these shows and they had their Jeeps pulled on top of tires or on ramps. We didn't do anything special besides pull in and park. I have to admit, the JeepHobby Jeep isn't anything very special. It isn't tricked out, it isn't jacked up, it doesn't even have a winch. So, we just kind of pulled in and took our place in line and then went and visited the other Jeeps. One of the first Jeeps to catch me eye was this Grand Wagoneer. I have a thing for the Wagoneers. I can't explain it, but they just appeal to me. This one had been restored and was very clean.
Now here's something you don't see everyday - an old Willy's. I always enjoy looking at these old vehicles. I should've taken a picture of the engine, it was so small, but still cool.
What do you do when you're paint job isn't up to par, you cover the entire Jeep in mud, that's what. Nah, I'm sure this guys Jeep is just fine underneath all of that mother nature. As the logo says, It's A Jeep Thing.
I had to take a picture of this JK because I hated the fact that it sat larger than my Jeep. Just look at the tires on this thing!
Here's a clean, fun looking Jeep. I think my tailgate would fall off if I put a tire that big on the back.
A Jeep with a hood scoop :) I never did run into the owner to see what was underneath of the hood that needed all of that air or room.
I had my son with me as we looked at this old mail Jeep. It's kind of cool to think that back when I was a kid, which actually wasn't that long ago, it was common to see a mail Jeep. Out where we live now, the mail drivers use their own vehicles. How times have changed.
Here's a 1941 Jeep - one of the first Jeeps! I probably spent the longest looking at this Jeep. If you've never taken the time to look at the suspension and steering leakage on one of the original Jeeps then add that to your to do list. The simplicity is amazing, but I'll bet the ride sucks. Just look at the those tires! They don't look very forgiving on pavement, but I bet they did just fine for what they were made for. If I ever run across one of these that I can afford, it's mine.
Yea, here's a good example of why I kind of snuck into the show and didn't draw any attention to my Jeep. Who can compete against Jeeps like this?
Stay safe and I hope your Jeep stays in one piece.
